misfitting-skin: I totally understand where you're coming from but this sort of stuff raises the Moral in Zimbabwe. As someone who is Zimbabwean and visits regularly, it's one of the things we genuinely look forward to. The actual country itself is fine, the media only shows what it wants to and yes there are VERY bad things going on there but it's not ALL that happens. We have fantastic athletes, they're not the ones doing the killings? So why should they pay?

The idea is that one year not competing in the olympics raises enough concern from other countries to create international pressure on the corrupt government. What’s more important; gaining a few medals on a glorified sports day? or Zimbabwe become a country with human rights and a constitution in place where the people of Zimbabwe can be proud of and feel safe
